MCI wants to celebrate a important part of our local history. As some of you will know, our office is in Falkirk. Falkirk is famous for its giant sculptures of two horses' heads called the Kelpies. The sculptures stand in a beautiful park called the Helix. The sculptures were unveiled in a ceremony a decade ago this week. The Kelpies are named after Celtic mythological creatures who often take the form of horses.

However, horses were chosen as the subject of these sculptures because of the historical mode of transport used in this region - canal barges with heavy horses. The canals still criss-cross Scotland, but using canal barges as commercial transport has passed into history. Heavy horses still exist and they are used as exhibition animals. These giant, gentle horses have to be seen to be believed. In the past, these horses pulled long thin boats called barges, loaded with goods to be delivered. Nowadays, mechanically powered barges can be used as pleasure craft for holidays - like floating caravans.

If you're in the area, stop by the Helix to take a look at these amazing sculptures. It is especially beautiful in the evening when they are lit up.
