Today, MCI wants to celebrate the life of a man who brought much joy to children and adults over the years. We want to pay homage to the legendary Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets. Jim Henson was always destined to be a puppeteer, creating his first puppets at high school. He set up Muppets Inc. in 1959 with his future wife Jane Nebel.
In 1969, he joined a children’s TV series called Sesame Street. Of course, he developed puppets for the show. Less than a decade later, he created the cult series The Muppet Show. He pioneered new ways to convey his art and it wasn’t long before stars were clamouring to appear on the show with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and the rest of the Muppets crew.
Hollywood came knocking at the Muppet’s theatre door and movie offers flowed in. The Muppets went on to do a staggering 8 feature films and many more TV series. Other puppet films and series included Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Who can forget David Bowie’s appearance as the fantasy villain.
Whether you loved Big Bird, Kermit, Sprocket the Dog or Gelfings, Jim Henson’s creations have touched all our childhoods. Thank you, Jim Henson and his team for giving us such lovely memories. Have a lovely weekend everyone!
