Happy Halloween everyone! As this is the last post before the big night, MCI looks at its last monster for this year… or is that hero? Frankenstein’s creation. We have already looked at the life of Mary Shelley, who wrote the book in a previous post.

Today, we look at Frankenstein’s monster. Frankenstein used parts of cadavers to make a ‘new’ being and brought it to life in his laboratory. Much like a child, our ‘monster’ evolved and, although shunned by his creator, tries to force Frankenstein to make a partner for it. The monster’s yearning for companionship becomes the central pivot of the story.

As you can imagine, as Frankenstein regrets and is horrified by his creation, he deliberately bungles the creation of another monster. As an act of revenge, he kills Frankenstein’s new wife. In the end, the monster accepts his fate somewhere in the arctic north. Frankenstein (not the monster) is the bad guy, but spare a thought for our lovelorn tragic hero….. Unless, of course, you’re watching The Bride of Frankenstein!

Hollywood certainly knew a good story when they saw it, and Frankenstein’s monster has graced our movie screens with horror, comedy and cartoon capers. Who can forget the lovable Herman Munster from the TV show, The Munsters!

Whatever you are dressing up as this Halloween, have a great time!
