This Wednesday was International Guide Dog Day. So today MCI wants to celebrate and honour the amazing and life-changing work of guide dogs around the world. These furry companions play a crucial role in the lives of many individuals with visual impairments, providing them with independence, safety, and companionship.

In case you weren’t aware, guide dogs are specially trained to assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired in navigating their surroundings. They are trained to avoid obstacles, stop at curbs and stairs and cross the road safely, to name but a few of their tasks.

Today, we want to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of guide dogs, as well as the incredible bond that forms between them and their owners. These dogs truly change lives, and their impact cannot be overstated.

We also want to take a moment to recognize the organizations and individuals who work tirelessly to train and care for guide dogs. It takes a great deal of time, effort, and resources to train these incredible animals, and we are grateful for their dedication and hard work. Not every puppy can grow up to be a guide dog. The puppies go through rigorous testing to see if they have the natural aptitude to want to help humans, and have the intelligence to learn the vast number of commands required.

Did you know that some of the first guide dogs were Airdales? We like to think that our Fiddler (as featured in our ‘Dog of the Month‘ series) had an ancestor, somewhere in his family tree, who was a guide dog pioneer.

So today, let’s celebrate all of the amazing guide dogs around the world. Have an great weekend everyone!
