“… And now for something completely different…”.

This week, MCI wants to celebrate the Monty Python team as they were first broadcast on the BBC on the 5th October 1969. From swallows carrying coconuts, being slapped with fish and the Spanish Inquisition, their unique brand of absurdist humour changed the face of comedy forever.

Monty Python officially got together at a Kashmiri Tandoori restaurant in Hampstead. The show Monty Python’s flying circus was a mix of sketches, animation and song. The surreal animation was supplied by Terry Gilliam. Songs were provided by Eric Idle. It was the perfect combination.

Following the TV shows’ success, the team went on to create films such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life.

Monty Python’s Flying Circus officially ended on the 5th December 1974. Although the team went off to have very successful solo careers, Monty Python’s series and films became cult, influencing comedians and writers for years to come.

Have a great weekend everyone!
