This week on August 24th 79 A.D., Mt. Vesuvius erupted and engulfed the prosperous city of Pompeii. From this terrible natural disaster, the city was perfectly preserved for thousands of years until uncovered by archaeologists. Even today, it continues to give us an invaluable insight into ancient Roman life.
