MCI is celebrating Bonfire Night (otherwise known as Guy Fawkes Night) this weekend. This celebration only happens in the UK and marks the night that Guy Fawkes and his followers were stopped from blowing up Parliament. Most children in the UK know the rhyme:
‘Remember, remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot’
Let’s face it, though – not many children forget the one night of the year when huge bonfires are lit across the country and fireworks displays are enjoyed by kids young and old. Sometimes figures of Guy Fawkes are made of straw and put on the top of the bonfires.
After a chilly night enjoying the festivities, it’s traditional to eat toasty baked potatoes topped with your favourite fillings followed by a slice of gingerbread and a hot chocolate to finish (marshmallows and whipped cream an optional extra!).
For everyone celebrating, please remember that pets can be sensitive to the noise of fireworks. Please remember to keep your furry or feathered friends safe and cosy at home. Give them plenty of hugs and attention. Some pet behaviourists suggest making your pet a cosy, dark, little pet cave with plenty of blankets.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
