Today, MCI celebrates the life of Robert Noyce. He was known as ‘the Mayor of Silicon Valley’ and was the founder of the Intel Corporation. If you’re not sure of the impact that Noyce has had in your life, look at your PC, laptop or tablet – we’re pretty sure you’ll see the Intel sticker somewhere. He is credited with inventing integrated circuits made with silicon. This led to the area to be called Silicon Valley. Noyce’s invention allowed computers to be significantly smaller and more powerful. In short, the silicon integrated circuit made personal computing possible.

Once, Noyce was asked what he would do if he were “emperor” of the United States. He said that he would, among other things, “…make sure we are preparing our next generation to flourish in a high-tech age. And that means education of the lowest and the poorest, as well as at the graduate school level.”

A noble sentiment indeed.

Sadly, Robert Noyce died of a heart attack at the early age of 62 on 3rd June 1990. His legacy, however, lives on in our computers.

MCI may not be the father of computing, but we think of him every time we use a PC or laptop. If you are having problems with your control panel or PLC, just give MCI a call on 01324 611371 to see how we can help get your machinery back up and working in no time.
